ACEs - Adverse Childhood Experiences

What are ACEs?

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) (Wales)

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events that affect children while growing up, such as suffering child maltreatment or living in a household affected by domestic violence, substance misuse or mental illness.

Why is it important that we understand ACEs?

Data published by Public Health Wales suggests the effects that a number of ACEs may have on an individual. These are addressed in the video and the links to Public Health Wales.

The Donaldson recommendations for schools in Wales place an emphasis on promoting Health and Wellbeing as part of the curriculum.

Through discussing ACEs and making all steak-holders aware, as a school we aim to support individuals and families where we can.

Developing resilience is a key issue raised by ACEs and a project that is being looked into.

Should you have any questions, please contact the school.
