School Meals

School Meals

The school meal service provides a range of nutritious and freshly cooked meals every day.

The children are offered a choice of either the main dish of the day, a jacket potato with choice of filling, or a sandwich. A salad bar is available for children to help themselves, as well as bowls of fresh fruit on each dining table. All school meals for Primary aged children are free under the Universal Primary Free School Meals (UPFSM) scheme Wales.

Please see attached a link to the Denbighshire county council website, this specific link will take you to the 'primary school dinners menu page' where you will see 3 sets of menus labelled, 'week1' 'week 2' and 'week 3'. The menus run on a 3 weekly rota basis.

Universal Primary Free School Meals

The Welsh Government have committed themselves to provide Universal Free School Meals to all primary aged children by 2024.

To help with the rising costs-of-living, Denbighshire County Council are working with the Welsh Government so that every primary school pupil will be offered free school meals by 2024 through the Universal Primary Free School Meals scheme.

For more information please follow the link below:

Although all school meals are free for Primary School children we would encourage you to still apply for Free School Meals through Denbighshire County Council.

If you are in receipt of certain benefits and have a household income which does not exceed the current Government threshold, you could be entitled to free schools meals for your child. Claiming Free School Meals also qualifies you for help with covering extra school costs with the School Essentials Grant.

What the grant is for

The School Essentials Grant can help cover the costs of:

  • school uniform, including coats and shoes
  • school activities, including learning a musical instrument, sports kit and other equipment for after school activities
  • classroom essentials, including pens, pencils and school bags

For further information on eligibility or the application process, please contact the local authority where your child goes to school.

Packed Lunches

Children can bring a packed lunch to school with them and this will be eaten in the school hall or weather permitting, out on the yard.

Water is available, but you may wish to supply a drink. As per our Healthy Schools Policy, we would ask that children do not bring fizzy drinks or sweets.
